Ray's Story
Ray Devers writes Christian inspirational books that encourage readers to see faith, failure, grace, forgiveness, and hope through the truth of Scripture.
Growing up in a broken family, Ray cried out to God from a young age for comfort and understanding. His mother often encouraged him to give his heart to Jesus, reminding him, “Son, God has a special purpose for your life and someday you will realize it.”
Many years passed, filled with spiritual highs and equally challenging lows. Ray struggled with the feeling that he could never be good enough: often listening to the demons of doubt that told him to give up. And sometimes, he did. But his love for the Bible and his mother’s constant words never left him.
Later in life, becoming a husband and parent changed something deep inside him. As he prayed for his children, watched over them, and wanted to bless them, he began to understand more deeply how God loves His children.
Years of studying Scripture began to come alive in a new way, and Ray started writing down the thoughts and encouragement he was having. His first book was 25 years in the making: always in his mind. Something about turning 60 was the spark. Looking at his mother, nearing her 88th birthday, he said, “I’m going to give her the gift she always believed in. I’m going to become a Christian author.”
That gift became the beginning of Ray’s writing journey. His prayer is that his books will lift your spirit, encourage your soul, and point you to the hope found in Jesus Christ.
Why a Pen Name?
I write under the pen name Ray Devers for several reasons. First, it is something I have wanted to do since I was a young teenager. Second, the name is a way to honor my mother, whose faith, love, and encouragement helped shape my life. And third, I believe there is wisdom in avoiding personal praise.
Proverbs 27:21 (MSG) says: “The purity of silver and gold is tested by putting them in the fire; The purity of human hearts is tested by giving them a little fame.”
For me, writing under a pen name helps keep the focus where it belongs: on the message, not the author. My desire is not to seek attention for myself, but to point readers toward the hope, grace, forgiveness, and truth found in Jesus Christ.
